Todd Warstler

Advisory Board Member

Todd Warstler worked in the Real Estate and Infrastructure Division (REID) at the State of Michigan Retirement Systems (SMRS) for more than 30 years, serving as Senior Investment Manager of REID for the last six and a half years. In this role he oversaw all aspects of REID’s operations including acquisitions, asset management, dispositions, and strategic planning for a $10 billion, global real estate infrastructure portfolio within the $110 billion state pension fund.

Over his tenure, Mr. Warstler was instrumental in shaping the division’s direction. He established new investment criteria, integrated a modern accounting and data management system into REID’s operations, and implemented both short- and long-term strategies for the system’s real estate and infrastructure program. Mr. Warstler played an instrumental role in two of the SMRS’s largest investments, multibillion-dollar real estate operating companies, one in the retail sector and one in the residential sector. Also during his tenure, REID launched a new REIT program, growing it to 5% of the portfolio and substantially expanded its allocation to the data center sector through a joint venture program initiated in 2015.

After retiring in March 2025 Mr. Warstler started Orchard Beach Consulting.
Mr. Warstler holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Finance and Management from Central Michigan University.
